Connecting your Instagram feed to your site

More and more clients are requesting that social media feeds be embedded into their website. The most common is Instagram, but Twitter and Facebook and a few others can be embedded also. This is not difficult to do, and we usually have our own Instagram account embedded into the website as an example, until it’s time to launch the website.

Once the site is launched, you’ll need to disconnect our Instagram feed and connect yours instead. Being that the plugin requires a connection with a username and password, and sensitive information, this is something that we’d prefer to instruct the client so they know how to connect their account to their website themselves. If that fails, then we are happy to get on the phone and walk them through it. The plugin may also become unhooked if you change your password. Here are the steps to reconnect your Instagram Feed plugin if it becomes unhooked:

  1. First make sure that you’re logged into your Instagram account.
  2. Log into your WordPress website.
  3. Once logged in, you’ll see the plugin called “Instagram Feed” in the left sidebar of the dashboard.
  4. Go to All Feeds >> then you will see the Biondo Studio feed (or your own feed if this is simply a password update) >> click the pencil at the far right under Actions.
  5. From there, click >> Settings >> Edit Sources >> there you will see either the Biondo Studio source listed (or your own account if you’ve had it hooked up already)
  6. Click Add Another Source >> then go through the steps in the secure dialog box and it will connect with your IG feed and embed it automatically to update whenever you post.
  7. If applicable, delete any Biondo Studio sources so that only your own Instagram is part of the feed. Save any settings as needed.

Current design trends that are making brands and websites more engaging

Noticing and keeping up with design trends is one of the biggest parts of my job and also one of my favorite parts. Similarly to why I loved art history so much in college, design is an expression of what is going on in society, although on more of a popular and every day level than with fine art. Keeping things current and modern, yet still letting your individual personality shine through is an important way to connect with your audience and stay up to date and relatable. Your website is a valuable chance to get undivided attention from your visitors, even if it’s just for a minute. The goal for websites is engagement, keeping people interested and clicking and staying on your site until they send that contact email. read more…

Upcoming improvements to the website builder

It’s been interesting to see the evolution of websites in this business and how it’s increasingly easier for clients to take control of maintaining their own sites if they’d like to. Of course, building WordPress websites from scratch isn’t as easy as the advertisements want us to believe they are. So it does take care of the huge learning curve to have a professional design and build one for you and then have you take it from there. There are many different page building software programs to choose from, and for the past 5+ years, we’ve been using one called Divi. Like many others, it uses a system of grid layouts, drag and drop modules, and highly customizable features. This allows us to build websites that are unique to each client rather than simply popping things into a pre-made template. read more…
