Updating your WordPress content and understanding the Divi theme

Once your WordPress site is completed, you have the freedom to update your site yourself, if you would like to. If the home page is animated or highly customized you probably wouldn’t be able to update it yourself without our assistance, but you will be able to log in and add content to the pages or add blog posts and share them on social media yourself. For those that are comfortable with technology, you may find that the website builder that we use is very user friendly.

We are available for content maintenance on an as-needed basis for text updates, addition of sections or pages, or even small changes to your website. Our rate is $100 per hour which sounds like a lot, but we know this software very well, work very fast and bill in 15 minute increments. At the end of the month, we send a bill only for the amount of time that it took to do your updates. So, in those cases, you only pay for as much or as little help as you want.

Regardless, after your site is completed, we’ll give you the login link and username and password in order to get into your own WordPress dashboard. We’ve made a basic video showing you the general sections of the dashboard and how to get around in it, in case you’re not familiar. We primarily use the Divi theme for all of our websites, which is very popular and we use a series of modules to create each of your site pages. This tutorial should be enough to give you an overview of the Divi theme and get you going. We do our best to label each module in the site as we’re building it, so that if you do want to update the site yourself later on, you will be able to find the item you’d like to edit, make your changes, save the module… and then don’t forget to save the page itself with the big blue update button at the top right of the page. Voila!

In addition to content updates, like adding information, media and blog posts, it’s very important to do general maintenance by either logging into the WordPress dashboard or your website hosting account every month or so to update your WordPress software, theme and plugins. It’s very easy, but if you’d prefer not to do so, we do have a maintenance plan available. Also, it’s always a good idea to test your contact form periodically to make sure that’s sending and receiving without any issues.

Instagram changes

You’ve probably noticed (or maybe you haven’t) that Instagram has changed their format of the square 1:1 ratio, 1080 x 1080 pixel photo grid to 4:5 ratio, 1080 x 1350 pixel rectangles. The change can be seen on your main feed and your profile on the app so far, but on desktop, my profile still shows squares, for now. The format is taller and better aligned for mobile devices, and matches the sizing of reels and stories. Many people are very angry that their carefully cropped and perfected square grid doesn’t fit the new dimensions.
